The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The Fashion Capitals collection took its name seriously. Each fragrance in the line was conceived as a portrait of a city, not a postcard, but the feeling of it. New York Intense arrived in 2020, Pierre-Constantin Guéros at the wheel, with a single directive: capture the city's summer. Not the tourist version. The real one. The heat that makes everything more vivid. The evenings when the light turns amber and the city exhales. The notes reflect that arc, from electric brightness to warm, lasting depth.
The note structure is built around a specific tension: bright opening, warm heart, deep base. Blackberry and rose give the top its sharpness, that rush of city energy at noon. Clove, honey, and vanilla create the warmth underneath, the part that stays close to skin for hours. And the base, oud, amber, patchouli, vetiver, is where the city shows its true character. Dense, resinous, not trying to be polite. The composition uses more than nine distinct accords, which is how it manages to feel both layered and coherent. Nothing fights. Everything builds.
The evolution
The opening arrives quickly, blackberry, rose, citrus, and that bay leaf lift cutting through immediately. It reads like the city at high noon: electric, alive, demanding attention. The transition to the heart happens within the first twenty minutes, as the clove and honey assert themselves and the florals recede. This is the longest phase, the one that stays close to skin for hours, warm and spiced without ever getting loud. The drydown is where the oud reveals itself. Not all at once. A slow emergence through amber and patchouli, with vetiver grounding everything underneath. The myrrh and labdanum linger longest, resinous, smoky, still present the next morning on clothing. This is a fragrance that earns its wear through the full arc, not just the opening.
Cultural impact
New York Intense occupies a specific space in the niche-oud conversation, the bridge between approachable sweetness and genuine depth. The warm-spicy-woody structure reads as luxurious without being heavy-handed, and the strong longevity makes it a practical choice for evening wear. The Fashion Capitals framing gives it a narrative anchor that helps position it as a city portrait rather than just another oud fragrance.
