The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Nanako Ogi designed Sirène as Fragrance Du Bois's first explicit women's fragrance, translating the mythic allure of a siren into scent. Her brief was clear: seduction without apology. The opening cherry note nods directly to that goal, pairing the fruit's seductive quality with pink pepper's daring edge. Rather than building around a single note, Ogi layered bright and dark, modern and ancient, creating a fragrance that reflects contemporary femininity's complexity. Launched in 2024, Sirène represents the house's evolution from oud-focused compositions toward broader emotional territory while maintaining their commitment to sustainably sourced materials.
The note selection reflects deliberate contrast. Cherry and pink pepper open bright and attention-grabbing, establishing immediate appeal, while oud and incense bring the depth and complexity that define Fragrance Du Bois's house character. Lactone bridges these worlds, its creamy quality making the transition from bright to dark feel organic rather than jarring. In the base, cypriol grounds the sweetness with earthy weight, labdanum adds balsamic warmth, moss introduces green complexity, and benzoin provides the longevity that allows the fragrance to develop fully over time. This architecture ensures Sirène remains interesting from first spray through final drydown.
The evolution
Sirène begins as a sirensong: bright cherry that catches attention immediately, punctuated by pink pepper that prickles the senses. This opening phase feels playful and tempting, the olfactory equivalent of a figure glimpsed through water. As the fragrance evolves, the sustainable oud emerges from beneath the cherry, its smoky depth contrasting sharply with the initial sweetness. Incense arrives alongside, introducing an almost ceremonial smoke that suggests ancient ritual. The lactone softens this darkness with creamy warmth, preventing the heart from feeling harsh. The drydown shifts again, with cypriol and moss creating an earthy, slightly wild character while labdanum and benzoin wrap the wearer in resinous warmth that lingers close to the skin for hours.
Cultural impact
Since its 2024 debut, Sirène has been celebrated as the house’s first female‑focused scent, often cited in niche forums as the go‑to choice for women who want a bold oud that commands attention without sacrificing elegance. Its launch sparked discussions about gender‑neutral marketing in niche perfumery, and it quickly became a reference point for sustainable oud sourcing, influencing subsequent releases across the industry.
