The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Oud Jaune Intense arrived in 2013, a study in contrasts. Nathalie Gracia-Cetto built the composition around that tension, taking Fragrance Du Bois's sustainably sourced oud foundation and wrapping it in tropical fruit and white florals until the darkness almost disappeared. The name itself is the concept, oud made golden, made bright, made approachable. The house's Grasse heritage shows in the careful construction, each note placed with the precision of French perfumery tradition.
The note structure reflects a deliberate philosophy: use tropical sweetness to illuminate oud rather than bury it. Ylang-ylang and pineapple create immediate appeal, while salicylate in the heart adds complexity that rewards patience. The drydown's lactone, musk, and vanilla create a bridge between the house's oud focus and a broader audience seeking something gentler. Each layer serves a purpose, watery fruits for brightness, white flowers for elegance, creamy base notes for longevity.
The evolution
The fragrance begins in sunlight, ylang-ylang and pineapple hitting the skin with tropical urgency, monoï softening everything into warmth. Watery fruits add an unexpected aquatic shimmer that makes the opening feel refreshing rather than cloying. Within the first hour, jasmine and orange blossom rise, salicylate lending that characteristic cool edge that keeps white florals from overwhelming. The heart lasts for hours, a continuous bloom of floral richness. As time passes, lactone emerges, its creamy character bridging the gap between florals and base. Musk and vanilla arrive together, wrapping the oud in softness. The oud itself is never aggressive, it lingers in the background, a dark anchor keeping the sweetness grounded.
Cultural impact
Oud Jaune Intense launched in 2013 as part of Fragrance Du Bois' Shades du Bois collection. Nathalie Gracia-Cetto crafted the composition to blend deep oud with tropical florals and fruits, creating a luminous contrast that makes traditional oud feel warm and approachable. The fragrance stands as a modern interpretation within the house's range, bridging classic oud traditions with bright, accessible sweetness.
