The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Cavort emerged in 2021 from Gaël Montero, working with Fragrance Du Bois to create something that felt less like a perfume and more like a moment. The For Lovers collection frames each release around intimacy, something stolen, something shared, something that lives between two people. Montero chose saffron and davana for the opening because he wanted a entrance that demanded attention before earning it. The rose heart was meant to soften what came before, then slowly give way to something earthier, more honest. The name itself suggests play, something that begins in one register and ends in another.
What makes Cavort unusual is how it uses saffron and davana rather than oud as its primary material. Fragrance Du Bois built its identity on sustainable oud, but this scent doesn't lean on that. Instead, Montero builds from warm spice and yellow florals, letting rose absolute and ylang-ylang carry the heart. The base, Indonesian patchouli, labdanum, and incense, provides the warmth that makes the composition feel intimate rather than just complex. The structure moves from sharp to soft to earthy, a progression that mirrors the stages of an evening.
The evolution
The first spray is where most people make their decision. Saffron arrives dry, medicinal, almost aggressive in its brightness. Davana and geranium add an aromatic edge that some describe as herbal, others as near-medicinal. Within twenty minutes, the sharp edges soften. Rose absolute emerges, warm, powdery, almost dusty in its sweetness. Ylang-ylang and orange blossom carry the middle, creating a golden floral heart that holds for two to three hours. The base takes longer to reveal itself. Indonesian patchouli arrives earthy and dark, then incense adds a thin line of smoke. Sandalwood and labdanum settle into something warmer, closer, more personal. By the end, the fragrance has become something that exists an inch above skin rather than in a room. The longevity holds, eight to ten hours on most skin types, though dry skin may pull the performance shorter.
Cultural impact
Cavort belongs to the For Lovers collection, a series designed around intimacy and sensory connection. The fragrance sits in the warm spicy category, competing with creations like Saffron Lazuli and Side Effect rather than traditional oud-dominant scents. Montero's vision represents an evolution for the house: a composition that steps away from the woody resin at the heart of Fragrance Du Bois' identity, using saffron and davana instead to create something more playful and personal.
