The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Eau de Molinard arrived in 2011 as Molinard's answer to modern unisex cravings, marrying the house's Grasse roots with a fresh Mediterranean outlook. Drawing on the historic laboratory's expertise, the perfumer blended sun-ripe citrus from the Amalfi coast with the spice lanes of the East, aiming for a composition that felt both rooted and contemporary. The goal was not reinvention but refinement, applying the house's knowledge to materials that feel familiar yet are arranged with care and intention.
The note selection reflects a deliberate balance between freshness and warmth. Citrus oils handle the opening, setting an immediate tone of clarity and brightness. The spice materials, Cardamom and Cinnamon, were chosen to layer warmth into the heart without pushing the composition toward heaviness. Jasmine and Ylang-Ylang act as a softening bridge, while Cedarwood and Sandalwood provide a reliable drydown anchor. The result is a fragrance that moves fluidly from citrus to spice to wood, each phase distinct yet connected by the natural arc of the materials themselves.
The evolution
The fragrance opens with a clear, bright citrus burst, placing Bergamot and Lemon at the front while Mandarin Orange broadens the fruit dimension. Ginger adds a quiet warmth that signals the transition before the heart arrives. Cardamom and Cinnamon then take over, building a warm, spiced presence that intertwines with the creamy florals of Jasmine and Ylang-Ylang. By the time the drydown arrives, the spice softens and the woody base of Cedarwood and Sandalwood emerges, with Tonka Bean and Vetiver completing a restrained, grounded finish that stays close to the skin for hours.
Cultural impact
Since its 2011 debut, Eau de Molinard has become a quiet staple among those who favor a crisp, unisex profile that works from office to evening terrace. Wearers often cite its balanced citrus‑spice‑wood blend as a go‑to for spring and summer gatherings, positioning it alongside other Grasse‑heritage scents that celebrate Mediterranean freshness.
