The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Balfoin was created by perfumer Csaba Bálint and launched in 2020. Its composition opens with Calabrian bergamot, Green Mandarin, Guatemalan Cardamom, Lavender and Pink Pepper, creating an alert, sparkling introduction with a lively herbal edge. The heart moves toward fig, dried apricot, dates and hay, layering ripe fruit with a dry, sunlit quality. Aromatic herbs keep the citrus and fruit from becoming overly sweet, while the woods lend depth as the fragrance settles. The materials come together in a nuanced blend of fruit, flowers, aromatic herbs and woods, with each note adding a distinct texture to the composition.
The unusual part is the range held inside one composition. Fig and dried apricot bring soft, sun-baked sweetness, while dates and hay absolute give the center a deeper fruit-and-field character. Sea salt and cypress add mineral and green edges, and rose, peony and linden blossom keep it floral without turning candied. The base then pulls everything toward the skin with bourbon vanilla absolute, tonka bean, musk, patchouli, benzoin, sandalwood, styrax and moss.
The evolution
The opening starts with polished citrus and a brisk pinch of Pink Pepper, with Lavender keeping the brightness herbal rather than clinical. As those notes recede, the heart becomes more tactile: fig, apricot and dates suggest a warm market table, while hay, cypress and sea salt scatter in dry grass, green bark and salt air. The floral materials soften the fruit without taking over, balancing ripe sweetness with a clean aromatic quality. The combination evolves as citrus and pepper give way to fruit, hay and mineral notes, creating a composition that feels both fresh and textured. Later, bourbon vanilla absolute and tonka bean bring a rounded sweetness, joined by benzoin, sandalwood and patchouli. Musk, styrax and moss remain close to the skin, leaving the fragrance woody, slightly resinous and quietly darker.
Cultural impact
Balfoin brings together recognizable gourmand materials and contrasting natural textures. Date and fig are joined by lavender, hay, salt and woods, giving the fruit a drier and more aromatic setting. Citrus, pink pepper, cardamom and mandarin lend freshness to the opening, while floral notes keep the composition balanced. As it develops, the fragrance moves through fruit, herbs, salt, vanilla, tonka bean and woody base notes, revealing different facets with each stage.
The House
Balint ParfumsBalint Parfums is a Serbian perfume house rooted in the quiet village of Kanjiza. Founded by perfumer Csaba Balint, the label debuted with Balifleur in 2018 and has since built a catalogue that reads like a seasonal diary. Each year the house adds a cluster of scents—Balvanil, Balpear, Balelder, Baloak and Balirose arrived in 2024, while 2025 saw the launch of BALGRIS, BALCACTUS, BALMER, BALYVER and BALROUGE. The brand balances a modest workshop ethos with a steady output of new compositions, offering collectors a sense of discovery without the flash of larger houses. Its fragrance line is marked by the “BAL” prefix, a subtle signature that ties the releases together while each bottle tells its own story.
The Creator
Csaba BálintCsaba favors a linear construction that lets each note speak before the next arrives. He often begins with a crisp citrus or green top, then introduces a heart of floral or aromatic herbs, and grounds the piece with a subtle woody or resinous base.
