The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Balbois arrived in 2024 from Csaba Bálint, the perfumer behind Balint Parfums, a Serbian house. Bálint's work carries a close, considered character, and Balbois fits that register well. It's a 2024 release that treats fruit and spice as a conversation rather than a statement. The composition opens on apple, pear, lemon, and orange, bright and clean at first, before cubeb and cardamom introduce a sharper, more aromatic edge. Ginger and cinnamon bring warmth through the middle, where blackcurrant bud, pineapple, and rose add a sweetness that leans tart rather than syrupy. Mahogany and tagetes give the composition some structure, so it doesn't float away.
The construction is worth pausing on. Apple, pear, lemon, and orange bring the brightness, but cubeb and cardamom keep the fruit from reading as a fruit bowl. Ginger and cinnamon carry warmth through the middle, where blackcurrant bud, pineapple, and rose add a sweetness that leans tart rather than syrupy. Mahogany and tagetes give the composition some structure, so it doesn't float away. The base does the quieter work: patchouli and sandalwood for depth, tonka bean for a soft sweetness, and white musk for that clean, close-to-skin finish that stays present without announcing itself.
The evolution
The first minutes are almost kinetic. Lemon, orange, ginger, and cubeb arrive bright and clean, sliced fruit pulled taut by cardamom, while apple and pear soften the edges. That opening doesn't linger as citrus. The fruits round out, and pineapple surfaces alongside blackcurrant bud, rose, and tagetes, adding a tropical inflection to what began as orchard fruit. Cinnamon keeps the sweetness from tipping into syrup, while the woods and tagetes lend the composition a firmer outline. Then everything drops lower. Patchouli adds a dark green edge, sandalwood and tonka bean settle into something plush, and white musk pulls everything toward the skin. As it wears, the character shifts from bright fruit to warm, woody spice, the ginger and cinnamon lingering underneath as the woods take over.
Cultural impact
Balbois fits the house's particular register: a scent that treats fragrance as something to explore rather than a demand for attention. The idea suits a release built on fruit, spice, and woods. It is described as an Oriental Spicy fragrance, and the construction follows that character closely. Fruit sits forward and the sweetness stays restrained, so the result feels layered and worth returning to rather than flat or one-note.
The House
Balint ParfumsBalint Parfums is a Serbian perfume house rooted in the quiet village of Kanjiza. Founded by perfumer Csaba Balint, the label debuted with Balifleur in 2018 and has since built a catalogue that reads like a seasonal diary. Each year the house adds a cluster of scents—Balvanil, Balpear, Balelder, Baloak and Balirose arrived in 2024, while 2025 saw the launch of BALGRIS, BALCACTUS, BALMER, BALYVER and BALROUGE. The brand balances a modest workshop ethos with a steady output of new compositions, offering collectors a sense of discovery without the flash of larger houses. Its fragrance line is marked by the “BAL” prefix, a subtle signature that ties the releases together while each bottle tells its own story.
The Creator
Csaba BálintCsaba favors a linear construction that lets each note speak before the next arrives. He often begins with a crisp citrus or green top, then introduces a heart of floral or aromatic herbs, and grounds the piece with a subtle woody or resinous base.
