The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Pomellato entered perfumery in 1989 with Pomellato Donna, and Pomellato Uomo followed a year later in 1990, giving the brand its masculine counterpoint. The house had already built a name in the wider luxury world before crossing into fragrance, and that crossover made its own kind of sense. Pomellato Uomo belongs to that early chapter of the brand's scent work, and on skin it announces itself with conviction. The opening is built around rosemary and artemisia, an herbal pairing that reads almost culinary at first spray, like crushed herbs under a heavy hand. That sharpness doesn't linger too long before the heart settles into a more familiar register: a classic fougère architecture with tarragon and jasmine threading through the mid-development, clean and slightly green.
What makes Pomellato Uomo interesting is the fougère structure executed with a herbal, almost culinary conviction. The rosemary and artemisia opening is sharp and bracing, reading less like a traditional aromatic and more like a kitchen mid-prep, herbs crushed and released into the air. That initial clarity gives way to the classic fern-tarragon-jasmine heart, where the fougère architecture does its familiar work, but the supporting cast around it feels weighted differently than the genre standard.
The evolution
The first fifteen minutes are all rosemary, bright and herbal, with green notes and bergamot giving it lift. There's an almost coniferous edge from the artemisia that makes it smell like the walk to a workshop, not the workshop itself. By the thirty-minute mark, the fern and fir take over, creating a cool, jammy, evergreen accord that sits closer to the skin. Geranium adds a faint floral dusting, jasmine barely whispers, and tarragon lends a licorice-anis edge that keeps things from getting too clean. This is the most surprising phase, warmer and woodier than the opening promised. Two hours in, patchouli and leather begin anchoring the base. Moss and cedar deepen the structure while amber adds a faint sweetness underneath. The musk arrives quietly, close to the skin, and by hour four the composition has settled into a smooth, earthy leather-patchouli drydown that stays detectable for the remainder of a workday. On fabric the next morning, the moss and fir linger like the memory of a forest path.
Cultural impact
Pomellato Uomo occupies a distinctive place in the fougère tradition, built for a wearer who treats grooming as part of a considered wardrobe rather than an afterthought. It carries a quieter confidence, closer to tailored suede than loud cologne in the way it sits on skin, and the composition rewards patience. The opening is brisk and herbal, with rosemary and artemisia doing most of the early work, but the leather-patchouli drydown is where it earns its keep, settling into a dense, mossy warmth that stays present through a full day.
