    Brand Profile

    Pomellato

Pomellato is an Italian fine jewelry house based in Milan, renowned for its bold use of colored gemstones and contemporary design approach. Founded in 1967, the brand introduced its first fragrance, Pomellato Donna, in 1989, marking its entry into the world of fine perfumery. The jewelry house became particularly famous for its Nudo collection, featuring a signature solitaire gemstone held in place by a minimal claw setting that exposes the stone on all sides. Kering (formerly Pinault-Printemps-Redoute) acquired a majority stake in Pomellato in 2013. The fragrance line, developed in partnership with IFF (International Flavors and Fragrances), draws inspiration from the brand's jewel-toned aesthetic, with scent families spanning floral, woody, and aromatic compositions. Pomellato occupies a distinctive position as a Milanese luxury house that bridges traditional Italian goldsmithing with modern, color-forward design philosophy.

    Heritage

A house, in its own words

Pino Rabolini, the son of a Milanese goldsmith, established Pomellato in 1967 in the heart of Milan. The name derives from a character in an Italian comic strip, chosen reportedly for its youthful, approachable quality. Rabolini initially focused on fashion jewelry before the brand pivoted toward fine jewelry in the 1980s. The pivotal moment came when Rabolini encountered the work of a Florentine goldsmith who specialized in pavé settings with colorful stones. This encounter reportedly inspired the design philosophy that would define Pomellato: jewelry that treated gemstones as the protagonist rather than subordinate to metalwork. The 1990s saw significant expansion, with Pomellato opening boutiques in international destinations including New York and Tokyo. Pino Rabolini served as chairman until 2017, when he stepped down after Kering increased its stake in the company. The brand's Milanese headquarters houses both its jewelry ateliers and fragrance development operations. Pomellato's heritage is rooted in a distinctly Italian approach to luxury that emphasizes color, craftsmanship in goldsmithing, and accessible refinement compared to more conservative European fine jewelry traditions.

Pomellato's approach to both jewelry and fragrance reflects a belief that luxury should be joyful and expressive rather than understated or intimidating. The brand consistently champions colored gemstones as vehicles for self-expression, a philosophy evident in its jewelry designs and carried into its fragrance development. The Nudo collection exemplifies this ethos by presenting raw, unpolished stones in their natural beauty. In perfumery, this translates to fragrances built around distinctive olfactory signatures rather than safe, universally pleasing compositions. The brand reportedly describes its perfumery as capturing the essence of Milanese elegance with an international sensibility. Pomellato's creative direction under various artistic directors has maintained this colorful, confident identity across both product categories. The house positions itself at the intersection of artisanal tradition and contemporary taste, appealing to clients who seek distinction over convention.
