The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Habanita Anniversary Edition marks a milestone for Molinard. The original Habanita launched in 2012 as an EDP, with an EDT version from 1988 and another from 1924. The 2021 anniversary edition brought this fragrance back in a collector's bottle, marking the milestone anniversary of the original. Molinard created Habanita as a perfume of transgression, a multifaceted woody oriental. The anniversary edition honors that legacy by placing it in a collector's bottle, bringing the fragrance's character to a new generation of wearers.
The note structure reveals Molinard's approach to this anniversary fragrance. Mastic and sea salt anchor the opening, a resinous, mineral quality that recalls Mediterranean coastlines. The heart layers heliotrope and mimosa into a powdery floral space, with jasmine and ylang-ylang providing richness. Cedar and vetiver form a woody foundation that emerges mid-drydown, grounding the composition. The base settles into vanilla, sandalwood, and amber, a warm, skin-close finish that rewards close attention.
The evolution
The opening arrives sharp and immediate. Mastic and sea salt hit first, resinous, mineral, like warm sap meeting ocean air. Geranium and black pepper arrive quickly, their green and sharp qualities tempering the salt. Petitgrain adds a bitter citrus edge that refuses to sweeten. Then the hand-off: heliotrope and mimosa bloom into a powdery floral space. Jasmine and ylang-ylang layer in warmth. Cedar emerges as the woody backbone, pulling everything toward drydown. The base settles into vanilla, sandalwood, amber, and musk, warm, intimate, close to the skin. This is where Habanita Anniversary earns its name. The drydown outlasts everything that came before it.
Cultural impact
The 2021 anniversary edition marks a milestone for Molinard. The collector's bottle brings renewed attention to a fragrance that has quietly accumulated admirers since its 2012 debut. It's the kind of release that reminds the fragrance world heritage houses can still surprise and innovate.
