Why it exists.
The beginning
In 2008, Olivier Pescheux returned to the idea that had launched Diptyque into perfumery forty years earlier. L'Eau, the house's first fragrance in 1968, was already unconventional for its era, a citrus-amber that defied the soapy conventions of its time. L'Eau de L'Eau arrives as its companion, not its copy. The name is self-referential, almost playful: water of water. What does it mean to revisit your own origin? The tension between the two creations runs through every note, a conversation between past and present that never fully resolves. Where the original offered a bold statement about what a fragrance could be, this sequel approaches the same territory with quieter confidence, letting the citrus and spice interplay speak for itself rather than announcing its intentions loudly.
