The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Madison Perfumery's 10th anniversary was the catalyst, a milestone worth commemorating properly. The collaboration with Roja Dove made sense: he's the perfumer who could translate that decade of experience into something tangible. Madeleine Florescu's vision for the fragrance had to capture what her perfumery represented, refined taste, an intimate clientele that demanded excellence, and the understanding that fragrance isn't just product but memory made sensory. Roja created two scents to mark the occasion, one masculine and one feminine, both serving as olfactory records of a specific moment in time.
The fragrance needed to be something distinctive, a signature piece that wouldn't get lost in the catalog. So Roja built this around geranium as the foundation, an unusual choice for a masculine scent that typically leans on citrus or fougère. Geranium brings a green, floral quality that feels both aromatic and intimate, a green rose rather than a delicate flower. The real challenge was balancing that floral heart with enough structure to feel masculine without resorting to the expected masculine notes. The base notes deepen considerably, cardamom, pink pepper, and cacao weave through the woody-vanilla foundation, with the cacao lending an unexpected dark richness.
The evolution
The opening delivers a citrus assault, grapefruit, lemon, lime, and bergamot hitting simultaneously with aldehydic brightness that could overwhelm. But it doesn't. Within minutes the citrus softens as geranium emerges, the floral and aromatic notes working together to create something that feels clean and green. The heart deepens with orange blossom and cyclamen, settling into a base of warm woods and vanilla that lingers for hours. The geranium heart continues to evolve throughout the wear, revealing new facets as it interacts with the skin. What begins as sharp and confident gradually softens into something more intimate, more personal. The vanilla and tonka bean emerge more prominently in the final hours, creating a warmth that feels almost edible. This is a fragrance that tells a complete story from opening to drydown.
Cultural impact
Madison Pour Homme stands apart from Roja's broader catalog as a limited edition piece honoring Madison Perfumery's decade-long partnership with the house. The fragrance appealed to collectors seeking the intersection of two prestigious names and proved significant enough to generate its own dedicated following. It's become a reference point for masculine geranium fragrances, those drawn to the scent discover something unconventional yet deeply sophisticated.
