The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The Elysium constellation needed a new star. Elysium Pour Homme launched in 2017 and became a significant fragrance for the house, a fougère built with the precision and opulence the house is known for. But the formula had its admirers, and admirers wanted more. The house responded with an intensifying re-imagining, bumping the fresh, woody, and sensual characteristics of the original accord and calling it simply: Eau Intense. The composition intensifies the woody facets while deepening the aromatic heart, creating a fragrance that feels both familiar and boldly reimagined.
What makes this reinterpretation structurally interesting is the amplified top. Where the original opened with a softer citrus introduction, Eau Intense leads with grapefruit, lime, and rhubarb in aggressive formation, all of it herb-touched, none of it sweet. The heart carries the same blackcurrant-apple-floral architecture as the original, but the amplified fresh notes carry further and stay longer on skin. The drydown, anchored by cedar, vetiver, and ambergris, arrives precisely where the 2017 version left off, but after a more commanding entrance.
The evolution
The opening is its loudest act. Grapefruit, lime, bergamot, and rhubarb create a sharp, green, almost astringent opening, with lavender and artemisia lending an aromatic fougère edge that recalls the original's structure. As the citrus recedes, the floral heart begins to emerge, blackcurrant lending tartness, apple adding body, lily of the valley and Grasse jasmine settling into the composition like a quiet conversation. The dry wood, cedar, and vetiver base takes over as the fragrance develops, with the house's signature musk, ambergris, and benzoin creating a warm, close, intimate drydown that hugs the skin rather than projecting outward. There is a mineral quality to the base that extends the freshness, while violet leaf lends a green finish that echoes the opening's herbaceous character. Black pepper and leather arrive last, barely, a whisper of spice under all that cedar.
Cultural impact
Elysium Pour Homme Eau Intense builds on the reputation of the original, offering more of the clean, woody, citrus structure that wearers trust. The EDP concentration ensures it performs well in professional and evening settings, reading as expensive without being ostentatious. This interpretation feels natural for those familiar with the original.
