The beginning
Roja Dove is a perfume creator of considerable reputation. He established ROJA London as a fragrance house that approaches scent as an art form, creating compositions with meticulous attention to material and structure. Oceania is a fragrance from this house, built around the idea of a maritime atmosphere translated into wearable form. The fragrance opens with crisp citrus and herbal notes that evoke salt air, moving through a floral heart before settling into a clean, mineral dry down. Each layer works to create the impression of an oceanic landscape, fresh yet substantial, airy but persistent. The composition captures the sensation of standing at the edge of a vast sea, where the air carries both energy and calm.
The opening is an assault of citrus that actually works. Most fragrances use citrus as an overture, something to get attention before the main event. Oceania keeps it running. Lemon, bergamot, grapefruit, lime, mandarin: they don't recede after ten minutes. They persist, threading through the heart, alive alongside the geranium and jasmine. Oceania takes the marine fragrance concept in a different direction.
