The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Ramón Béjar launched Celestial Rose in 2014 as part of his My Universe Privée Collection. The Barcelona-based house builds concentrated extrait de parfum formulas. Celestial Rose arrives in that tradition: a composition centered on a single flower, surrounded by materials that amplify rather than dilute its character. The name suggests intention, not a bouquet, not a garden, but something specifically celestial. That word choice points toward a version of rose that exists above the decorative, an elevated expression of the flower that strips away ornamentation and focuses on its essential qualities. The fragrance invites the wearer to experience rose in its most concentrated form, without distraction.
What's unusual here is the structural decision to thread rose through multiple layers. Most fragrances peak at the heart and fade. Celestial Rose opens bright with bergamot, develops into a fuller rose at the center, then carries that same Turkish rose oil into the base alongside sandalwood and cedar. The result is a fragrance that doesn't reinvent itself halfway through, it deepens. Geranium adds a green, slightly medicinal edge that keeps the rose from becoming sweet. Magnolia and violet bring softness, but the musk and sandalwood underneath ensure it settles rather than evaporates.
The evolution
The opening is citrus-forward and immediate, bergamot with a sharp herbal note underneath, likely the geranium asserting itself early. The rose blooms as the citrus recedes, taking its place as the dominant element. The middle phase introduces magnolia and violet, which add powdery softness without diluting the rose's presence. The drydown is where this fragrance earns its name: sandalwood and cedar create a warm, woody foundation while the Turkish rose oil continues to project softly. On fabric, this lingers for many hours. On skin, the fragrance stays close to the body but announces itself when you move. The next morning, a faint trace of sandalwood and musk may remain, a lingering reminder of the rose's presence throughout the wear.
Cultural impact
The 2014 launch of Celestial Rose brought a distinctive approach to rose-centric perfumery. The fragrance is part of the My Universe Privée Collection, which features concentrated extrait formulations. Celestial Rose distinguishes itself within Béjar's portfolio by threading Turkish rose oil through both heart and base notes, a structural decision that sets it apart from typical rose fragrance construction. This approach represents a different direction in the rose category, offering a template for floral compositions that maintain continuity rather than following conventional rose fragrance architecture.
