The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Three perfumers, Jean-Marc Chaillan, Carlos Benaïm, and Ann Gottlieb, came together in 2011 to create Live in Love. The fragrance brings together a lush floral composition centered on white florals: lily of the valley, hyacinth, jasmine, orange flower, and rose. These bloom against a backdrop of cedar and musk, creating a scent that feels clean, warm, and timeless. The overall effect is one of abundant garden beauty, softened by woody and musky undertones that give the composition depth and longevity on the skin.
The green opening from hyacinth and galbanum creates a crisp, dewy foundation that lifts the white florals above it, giving the composition height before the heart arrives. The galbanum adds a slight bitterness, a vegetal edge that keeps everything honest and grounded. This green note provides structural support for the florals that follow, allowing jasmine and rose to unfold with clarity and presence rather than sweetness. The overall impression is of a garden in full bloom, with each element contributing to a cohesive, living scent story.
The evolution
The green burst arrives first, hyacinth and galbanum crackling with a clean, dewy intensity that reads like morning air. Bergamot flickers beneath, a citrus brightness that lifts without sharpening. As this opening evolves, the florals gradually take their turn at center stage. The heart phase is where Live in Love earns its name. Jasmine sambac arrives creamy and exotic, then African orange flower brings a sun-warmed, powdery sweetness. Rose lingers in the background, not dominant, but present, adding a romantic warmth that feels intentional rather than decorative. This creamy floral richness carries the fragrance through its most expressive hours. The drydown is quieter. Cedarwood becomes the primary note, dry, woody, slightly resinous. Sandalwood and musk create a warm, skin-close effect. Amber adds a subtle glow underneath.
Cultural impact
Live in Love introduces modern green and floral elements that appeal to contemporary tastes while capturing the brand's signature romanticism. The fragrance features a carefully balanced blend of hyacinth, galbanum, and lily of the valley, creating a distinctive olfactory signature that feels both timeless and fresh. The scent draws from white florals, including jasmine, orange flower, and rose, creating a composition that reads as clean, warm, and sophisticated. This approach to floral fragrance offers an alternative to heavily synthetic constructions, appealing to those who appreciate natural-smelling elegance.
