The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Intenso di Nero is the house turning toward the other end of the spectrum. Giuseppe Imprezzabile built the composition in 2026 for the Collezione Intenso line, and the name does exactly what it says. Nero. Black. Intensity that doesn't flirt with daylight. Where Mediterraneo and A'mmare open windows onto the island, this one closes them, draws the curtain, lights something slow-burning in the corner. The brief here was shadow, not sun, and the result reads like a Capri that exists after the tourists have gone home. On first spray, the opening burns dark and resinous, a wave of smoke and bitter woods that announces its intentions before the first ten seconds have passed. There is no shy intro here, no polite citrus shimmer waiting in the wings.
What makes the composition interesting is the way Imprezzabile stacks the obvious warmth notes and still keeps the whole thing tense rather than syrupy. Cocoa and saffron in the top. Leather, amber, jasmine, rose absolute at the heart. Then a base that pulls no punches, with oud, patchouli, sandalwood, benzoin, myrrh, tonka bean absolute, vanilla absolute, white musk, and cedarwood all landing together. Most fragrances that list this many resins and woods collapse into one warm brown blur. Intenso di Nero doesn't, and the reason is the fruit. Blackcurrant and raspberry at the opening cut a cool thread through the saffron and cocoa.
The evolution
The first thirty minutes are deceptive. Cocoa and raspberry land first, and there's a fruit-and-chocolate gentleness that almost reads as a gourmand. Then the saffron threads through, and the leather starts to assert itself from underneath. By the one-hour mark the composition has shifted into its heart, and the softness is gone. What replaces it is a dense, dry warmth, the smell of a leather-bound room on a cold evening, with amber and rose absolute pushing back against the smoke. Jasmine sits in the middle of that conversation rather than floating above it. The sillage in this phase is strong. People two seats over will register the shift. From hour three onward, the base takes over. This is where the composition earns its name. Benzoin, myrrh, tonka bean absolute, vanilla absolute, and oud settle into a single sustained chord. Patchouli and sandalwood give it weight without muddiness. White musk softens the edges just enough.
Cultural impact
Intenso di Nero is part of Carthusia's Collezione Intenso, the line where the house reaches for denser, after-dark territory. Early wearers describe it as the scent of someone who has chosen the leather booth and the second drink. It carries a confident projection that fills a room without raising its voice, and it wears without apology in cold weather. The opening hits dense and resinous, a rush of smoke and dark woods that announces itself immediately, then slowly unfolds to reveal a leathery heart and a thread of dry, almost ashy vanilla running beneath.
