The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Jinx arrived in 2021 as part of the Mykonos x Paola Serena collaboration, a limited unisex release. The name carries a flicker of mischief, a wink at the idea that something this clean and easy shouldn't carry that much warmth underneath. The collaboration paired Mykonos with influencer Paola Serena Novelli, and the result is a scent that sits comfortably in the brand's lineup. There's an unexpected richness buried under that breezy surface, and it makes the whole thing feel like a quiet trick. You get the ease of something light, but the drydown pulls you somewhere deeper, somewhere with actual weight to it.
What makes Jinx structurally interesting is the tension between its top and its base. The opening leans marine, aquatic, almost sporty, with melon and grapefruit doing the breezy work. Then the heart pulls in lavender, sage, clove, and nutmeg, which adds an aromatic backbone that most fresh-aquatic compositions skip entirely. That herbal-spice middle is the hinge. Without it, this would be another beach cologne. With it, the fragrance earns depth.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are all movement. Marine notes and grapefruit cut through first, bright and cold, the ginger underneath adding a clean bite that keeps it from feeling synthetic. The melon is there but quiet, a sweetness in the background rather than a statement. By the 30-minute mark the lavender arrives and changes the temperature. The scent stops smelling like the ocean and starts smelling like a towel that just came off a warm body. Clove and nutmeg build behind it, and the whole thing shifts from fresh to aromatic. The sage weaves through quietly, keeping the lavender from going too clean, and the lily of the valley adds a green, almost metallic lift that keeps the heart from getting too soft. Two hours in, the base takes over. Sandalwood and iris do most of the talking, with leather threading through, giving it a powdery warmth that stays close to skin.
Cultural impact
Jinx arrived as part of Mykonos's collaboration series, tapping influencer Paola Serena Novelli for a limited release. It sits in the catalog alongside other Mykonos x influencer projects, a format that has become a recognizable part of the brand's output. The collaboration gave the scent a distinct aromatic, spiced character that sets it apart from the breezier entries in the lineup. By working with outside collaborators, the brand has been able to explore territory that might not emerge from a purely internal creative process.
