The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
On The Rocks arrived in 2025 from Mykonos, a house that builds each scent as a daily companion rather than a status symbol. The fragrance takes its name from a cocktail sensibility: a drink poured over ice, crisp at the rim and warming underneath. That tension between chill and heat shaped every layer, from the apple-bergamot splash on top to the vanilla-ambroxan close. Mykonos built it to move with the wearer, formulated for a presence that holds close to skin rather than disappearing after the first hour, and designed for the kind of person who reaches for fragrance as part of getting dressed, not as a statement piece. The composition reads as a study in contrast: bright fruit up top, woody-spicy depth in the middle, and a smooth amber-vanilla base that anchors everything.
Praline appearing in both the heart and the base is the structural bet here. It threads through the composition, softening the guaiac wood in the heart and warming the ambroxan in the base. The result is a scent that never fully commits to crisp or cozy. Myrrh adds a quiet incense thread to the opening that grounds the apple's sweetness, while orange blossom keeps the florals from reading too confectionery. The praline acts as connective tissue, pulling the warmer notes into a single gesture rather than letting them sit as separate ideas.
The evolution
The opening belongs to apple and bergamot, sharp and clean, with myrrh threading underneath like smoke caught in citrus zest. The fruit fades faster than you'd expect, pulling back to let guaiac wood and orange blossom fill the space. That's where the praline first shows itself, nutty and slightly toasted, sitting in the middle of the composition like a warm center. As the florals quiet, the drydown reveals ambroxan, vanilla, and that persistent praline, a skin-close warmth that seems to settle rather than vanish. The vanilla smooths everything out, giving the finish a creamy softness that rounds off the sharper edges from the top notes. The praline deepens with time, turning richer and more golden against the skin. There's a moment where the ambroxan reads almost mineral, clean and slightly salty, before the vanilla wraps around it.
Cultural impact
On The Rocks fits naturally alongside Mykonos' growing catalogue, which has drawn attention for wearable compositions with a clear point of view. Wearers comparing it to Althaïr note the zestier opening and the same elegant depth underneath, a signal that Mykonos is working in conversation with pricier designer releases without trying to replicate them. The house has carved out a space by offering scents that feel considered and original, compositions that don't rely on hype but on the quality of the juice itself.
