The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Inception was conceived as an exploration of temporal depth in fragrance, treating scent as something that unfolds across time rather than arriving all at once. The perfumer approached the composition with the understanding that fragrance, like narrative, has a beginning, a middle, and an ending. Each layer serves as a threshold you cross, experiencing one state of being before moving into the next. The result is a composition that moves through stages of revelation, each phase building on what came before while establishing its own distinct presence. Built around a standard three-tier note structure, the fragrance demonstrates how a conventional framework can be used to create something that feels genuinely exploratory.
The note structure here follows a conventional pyramid, with top notes arriving first: Ginger, Lemon, Bergamot, and Orange. These opening elements create an immediate citrus presence, but one with considerable nuance. Ginger lends a warmth and slight spice that prevents the citrus from feeling purely bright, while Lemon and Bergamot provide clean, aromatic sharpness. Orange adds a vibrant, energizing quality that rounds out the opening.
The evolution
The opening phase arrives with immediate presence. Ginger, Lemon, Bergamot, and Orange create a citrus burst that feels sharp and alive. Ginger adds a warm, slightly spiced quality beneath the brighter elements, creating depth even in the first minutes. Lemon and Bergamot provide clean, aromatic intensity, while Orange contributes vibrant energy. This initial phase establishes the fragrance's character, setting expectations for what follows. The heart phase introduces Black Tea with its aromatic, slightly bitter quality, Cinnamon bringing warmth and subtle spice, and Neroli adding a quiet floral dimension that softens the transition. These elements build upon each other, creating a middle section that feels considered rather than accidental.
Cultural impact
Inception holds a particular position in the Mykonos catalogue, representing a structural approach to fragrance design that challenges the assumptions of conventional composition. Launched in 2025, the fragrance demonstrates how a traditional three-tier note pyramid can be used to create something that feels newly considered. The top notes, Ginger, Lemon, Bergamot, and Orange, establish an immediate presence, followed by heart notes of Black Tea, Cinnamon, and Neroli, with a base of Cedar, White Musk, and Amber.
