The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The Luna Rossa collection draws from the world of extreme sailing, high-performance vessels cutting through open water at speed. The brand's collaboration with the Luna Rossa sailing team informs the collection's character. Daniela Andrier built the fragrance around a tension between botanical and synthetic elements, restraint and power, creating an interplay that gives the scent its distinctive personality. The 2026 EDP sits within that lineage but pushes darker than the 2017 EDT that started it, trading metallic brightness for something more interior, more intimate. There's a weight to the opening that suggests confidence, the lavender arriving with crisp precision before giving way to deeper, more contemplative notes that linger close to the skin.
What makes this composition work is the licorice. Here, Andrier threads a warm licorice accord through the lavender from the heart onward, creating a sweetness that tempers the herbaceous quality without erasing it. The coffee in the heart isn't espresso, it's cappuccino, milky and dark, which gives the heart a warm, enveloping quality. Incense weaves through the composition, adding a smoky dimension that emerges gradually, while the overall structure maintains its fougère foundation throughout the wear.
The evolution
The opening is all lavender, sharp, immediate, classic fougère territory. Bergamot sparks briefly alongside it, adding a citrus brightness that fades within the first 15 minutes. The licorice begins to emerge as the top notes settle, bringing a warm, anise-like quality that intertwines with the herbal lavender. Incense smoke notes become perceptible as the heart develops, adding a mysterious, resinous dimension. Coffee provides a subtle warmth throughout the mid-wear, its cappuccino-like character lending a gourmand comfort without becoming dominant. The composition gradually shifts toward its base, where woody notes become more pronounced, creating a smooth transition from the aromatic opening to a more grounded, sophisticated dry-down.
Cultural impact
Luna Rossa Carbon EDP joins a collection built on the ethos of high-performance sailing. The 2026 EDP sits alongside the 2017 EDT in the collection, offering a darker, more interior alternative to the original's metallic brightness. This new expression represents a natural evolution within the line, pushing the composition toward deeper, more contemplative territory while maintaining the athletic character that defines the Luna Rossa collection. The fragrance appeals to those who appreciate complexity and depth, offering a sophisticated alternative to more conventional scents in the genre.
