Bois Mystique was conceived in 2018 by perfumer Luca Maffei, who sought to translate Houbigant’s four‑century legacy into a modern woody‑spice narrative. The name evokes mysterious forests, a nod to the house’s historic ties to explorers who once charted uncharted woods for exotic ingredients. Maffei blended aromatic spices with deep resins to craft a scent that feels both timeless and freshly adventurous.

Unlike many contemporary releases that chase novelty, Bois Mystique leans into classic ingredients, cardamom, pink pepper and amber, while introducing cypriol oil, a rarely used aromatic that adds a green, earthy nuance. The inclusion of cashmere wood softens the cedar backbone, creating a tactile warmth that mirrors the feel of polished timber under a winter sky.

The opening flashes bright bergamot and neroli, instantly lifting the senses with a citrus‑spice spark that feels like a sunrise over a pine‑laden ridge. Within ten minutes the aromatic heart settles, as incense and cypriol oil weave a smoky veil, while cinnamon and black pepper inject a lingering heat that deepens the composition.
