The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
My Version Modern 701 arrived in 2014 as part of Dzintars' My Version line, a series built for women who wanted something wearable from a house better known in Eastern Europe than anywhere else. This one didn't need to shout. It was made for daily rotation, the kind of bottle that lives on a vanity and gets used until it's gone. 701 sits squarely in that brief. Floral, woody, musky, and powdery. A floral, not a floral. Familiar in structure, specific in execution. The composition reads as a study in gentle restraint rather than theatrical flourish. Nothing about it demands attention, and that's precisely the appeal. It offers the kind of presence that settles into a routine without ever feeling repetitive, the kind of scent you reach for without thinking because it rarely disappoints.
The composition pulls from an aromatic floral template that Dzintars has revisited across decades. Bergamot and orange blossom open with citrus and white floral brightness, then cyclamen and rose add a lift that keeps the top notes from collapsing into sweetness. The heart pivots to something unexpected: coriander bringing aromatic bite against sandalwood's creamy warmth, with musk threading through both. The base is where the powdery character lives. Ambergris, vanilla, and vetiver create that soft, skin-close finish.
The evolution
The first thirty minutes are the brightest. Bergamot cuts through cleanly, and the orange blossom arrives right behind it, giving the opening a clear, almost luminous quality. Cyclamen adds a watery greenness that keeps the florals from going heavy. Then the shift. Around the forty-minute mark, the coriander shows up and the whole composition tilts warmer. Sandalwood smooths out the edges, and the musk starts to take hold, pulling everything closer to skin. By the two-hour mark, the powdery character has fully settled in. The rose is still there, but it's buried under layers of vanilla and ambergris. The vetiver doesn't announce itself so much as ground the composition, adding a faint earthiness that keeps the sweetness from cloying.
Cultural impact
This is a quiet fragrance that found its audience through regional distribution channels rather than aggressive global marketing. It sits comfortably in the accessible aromatic-floral category, familiar in structure and built for rotation rather than collection. The kind of bottle that gets used up. Within its regional market, 701 has become something of a fixture, the sort of scent that appears on vanities and in bathrooms without ever needing an introduction. Its appeal lies in its straightforward approach to composition: it delivers what it promises without complication or pretense.
