The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Antonio Alessandria founded his eponymous house in 2014 in Italy, blending engineering precision with Sicilian sensory memories. For Nacre Blanche, he imagined a moonlit pearl, drawing from memories of Sicilian evenings where orange trees glowed under a silver sky and the scent of night-blooming tuberoses drifted through warm air. The citrus in the opening reflects those orchards at dusk, while the leather in the base echoes the worn leather gloves of harvest workers. This is memory rendered in liquid form, not nostalgia but sensation preserved.
The white florals in the heart were chosen for their ability to evoke nighttime in Sicily. Tuberose at this concentration is heady and slightly narcotic, exactly as it smells in gardens after dark. The leather-vanilla combination in the drydown was designed to create a tension between restraint and warmth, reflecting the duality of memory itself: clear yet hazy, sharp yet soft. Every note serves a purpose in this architecture, from the citrus opening that mimics the first moment of twilight to the woody-musky base that lingers like an afterimage.
The evolution
Nacre Blanche begins with an immediate citrus burst, mandarin and bergamot commanding attention while coriander adds an herbaceous counterweight. Grapefruit contributes a tartness that prevents the opening from becoming overly sweet. Within minutes, the white florals emerge: tuberose leads with its creamy, slightly animalic presence, followed by ylang-ylang's exotic warmth. Jasmine threads through the heart adding richness, while osmanthus contributes a subtle fruity undertone. As the fragrance moves into its drydown, leather surfaces with quiet authority, not harsh but present. Vanilla and benzoin soften this transition, creating a warm, resinous embrace. Sandalwood and patchouli anchor the composition, with musk providing an intimate final impression that lingers close to the skin.
Cultural impact
Since its 2014 debut, Nacre Blanche has become a reference point for modern unisex perfumery, influencing a wave of citrus‑floral‑leather blends that echo its bright opening and warm dry‑down. Collectors cite its balanced structure as a benchmark for longevity and projection, while niche houses have drawn inspiration from its seamless transition between day and night moods, reinforcing the brand’s reputation for innovative yet wearable compositions across diverse markets. The fragrance’s cultural resonance is evident in its frequent appearance in seasonal showcases and its role in shaping contemporary scent trends toward luminous, gender‑fluid expressions.
