Why it exists.
The beginning
Close To You was born from a specific moment. Rosa Vaia, the nose behind Coquillete Paris, created this fragrance exclusively for La Closerie, an olfactory salon in Paris, and the story behind it reads like a first chapter. Luca and Marco, the owners, wanted a scent that could capture the electricity of a first date. Luca, a tuberose lover, wears something intoxicating. Marco, seated across from him, is close enough to catch every note of it. Two steaming coffees on the table. A game of glances. The desire to lean in before anything's been said. That moment of almost, that's what Close To You translates into liquid form.
The composition mirrors that tension between head and heart. Coffee brings clarity, the rational observation of someone watching from across a table. Tuberose brings feeling, instinct, attraction, the animal pull toward another person. Everything else orbits that duality. The ylang-ylang and orange blossom in the opening are creamy and bright, but they're really there to frame the tuberose, to make its heady center impossible to ignore. By the time the drydown arrives, warm benzoin, soft sandalwood, the faintest whisper of cedar, you've forgotten it was ever about anything else. The fragrance doesn't build so much as it leans in.
The evolution
It opens with cream. Ylang-ylang and orange blossom bloom first, sweet and slightly heady, like leaning across a table before you've decided whether to close the distance. Moroccan jasmine adds depth, an indolic richness that makes the florals feel warm, almost skin-close. Coffee blossom appears briefly, a delicate counterpoint that keeps things from becoming too heavy. Then the tuberose takes over. It doesn't announce itself so much as it arrives, bold and absolute, the way a scent can take over a room when someone walks in wearing it. The heart introduces warmth, cloves, black pepper, labdanum's resinous amber, and dark chocolate that surfaces like a memory of something sweet. By the drydown, the florals have softened into benzoin's sticky warmth, tonka bean's sweet hay, sandalwood's cream. Cedarwood lingers longest, woody and intimate, the kind of thing you catch on your own wrist hours later and think of someone.
