The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Vesevius takes its name from Mount Vesuvius, the ancient volcano whose power has shaped the landscape around it. The paradox at the volcano's core is that the same forces of destruction have also created something of enduring richness and beauty. That duality translates into a fragrance that opens with the sweetness of blackberry and grapefruit but carries something older and more volatile underneath: oud, smoke, resin. The sweetness doesn't simply fade, it intertwines with these darker elements, creating an unexpected harmony. The name is a challenge: can a fragrance hold both?
What makes Vesevius structurally unusual is how it refuses to resolve cleanly. The herbal and green elements, galbanum, Italian broom, sage, keep interrupting the sweetness throughout the wear. The saffron acts as a bridge between these worlds, neither fully fruity nor fully spicy, pulling the composition toward warmth without ever fully committing. Oud appears in both heart and base, which gives the fragrance an unusual verticality, it doesn't build so much as it settles and refuses to leave.
The evolution
The opening hits immediately with blackberry sweetness and the sharp citrus of Italian lemon and grapefruit. Bergamot softens the edges. Then the galbanum arrives, green, almost medicinal, and the sweetness recedes like clouds clearing from a crater rim. The heart is where Vesevius earns its name. Oud and incense emerge together, wrapped in rosemary and lavender. The myrtle adds a wild, slightly bitter herbal note that keeps the composition from becoming heavy. As the base takes over, oud and patchouli settle into the skin while pine needles and amber give the drydown a resinous clarity. On fabric, this fragrance lasts into the evening, with faint traces of amber and oak remaining, the mountain after the eruption, still warm.
Cultural impact
Vesevius combines complexity with accessibility. The oud-saffron pairing creates a distinctive character, while the herbal and green elements, galbanum, myrtle, Italian broom, prevent it from feeling traditional. This blend of fruity sweetness, warm spices, and unexpected botanical notes gives the fragrance a unique position within the niche fragrance world.
