The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Lorenzo Pazzaglia created Sun-gria as a wearable translation of the sangria ritual. Sangria is not a precise drink, it changes with whoever makes it and whatever fruit is at hand. The fragrance mirrors this looseness, using grape and red wine as its structural anchor surrounded by a rotating cast of fruit, spice, and warmth. The PAX house approach treats taste memories as legitimate creative material, and Sun-gria draws directly from that summer staple to create something that feels both familiar and unexpected.
The note structure reflects a specific philosophy about balance. Citrus and spice create immediate appeal while grape and wine give the fragrance its personality, distinguishing it from straightforward fruity compositions. The drydown uses woody and balsamic materials to ground the sweetness, preventing the fragrance from becoming one-dimensional. Warm weather will amplify the citrus and fruit, while cooler conditions allow the spices and woods to emerge more gradually. The overall effect is a fragrance that adapts to its wearer rather than announcing itself uniformly.
The evolution
It opens bright and almost aggressive in the best way, citrus oils hitting with force before the spice notes of clove, cinnamon, and ginger arrive to steady things. The heart represents the longest phase, where grape and red wine take their time to develop. Raspberry and peach keep it lively while rose and cardamom add an unexpected complexity. The drydown is where patience pays off, amber and benzoin softening the edges while sandalwood and vanilla create something warm and inviting that lasts well into the evening.
Cultural impact
Sun-gria captures the universal joy of Mediterranean social culture, where sangria represents shared moments, spontaneous gatherings, and long summer evenings. The fragrance works as a kind of aromatic shorthand for warm-weather celebration, inviting wearers to step into a state of relaxed sociability. There's something almost tactile about the composition, the way the fruit notes mingle with spice suggesting the pleasure of holding a glass at a gathering. The warmth of the base notes, the lingering presence on skin throughout the day, all contribute to a sense of being surrounded by good company even when you're alone.
