The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Nº 20 Vitamina E.Xótica arrived in 2023 as part of the Aguas Frutales collection, Victorio & Lucchino's ongoing exploration of accessible, everyday fruit notes. The name itself is the concept, vitamina suggests vitality, E.Xótica signals something beyond the ordinary citrus and orange blossom that dominate much of the Spanish fragrance tradition. Perfumer Fanny Bal built this around tropical fruits that don't typically appear in European perfumery: papaya, kiwi, passion flower. The intent was a vitamin hit, energy and warmth distilled into a wearable form.
What makes this composition interesting is how it handles tropical sweetness without tipping into dessert territory. The four top notes, blackcurrant, kiwi, mandarin orange, papaya, create a chord rather than a sequence. They're introduced together, so you experience the tart berry bite alongside the soft roundness of papaya from the first spray. Pink pepper in the heart adds a subtle spice that prevents the florals from feeling generic. The base of cedarwood and sandalwood brings a woodiness that grounds the tropical opening, giving it structure rather than letting it float away into pure evaporation.
The evolution
The top notes hit immediately and stay dominant for roughly the first hour, kiwi's green tartness, mandarin's bright citrus snap, blackcurrant's berry depth, papaya's lush creaminess all arriving within minutes of each other. As the fruit begins to settle around the 90-minute mark, jasmine and peony emerge, white florals that feel cool rather than indolic, their sweetness complementing rather than competing with what came before. Passion flower adds a faint exotic note, a reminder that this isn't a European garden. By hour three, the florals have blended into a soft haze over the woody base. Cedarwood and sandalwood become more pronounced as the fruit fades, adding warmth and a slight creaminess from the sandalwood. Musk anchors everything, extending the drydown well into the evening. On fabric, it lingers into the next day, a faint tropical warmth that makes you reach for the bottle again.
Cultural impact
Part of Victorio & Lucchino's Aguas Frutales collection, Nº 20 occupies a specific niche: affordable Spanish tropical. Where many Spanish houses lean into citrus and Mediterranean florals, this one reaches for papaya and passion flower, bringing an exotic quality to the brand's signature approachability. The 2023 launch suggests a response to demand for tropical-forward scents at accessible price points, positioning it as a summer staple rather than a statement piece.
