The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The myth of Icarus has always been about desire, the pull toward light, toward altitude, toward something that burns. L'Eau Rêvée d'Ikar takes that story and makes it wearable. The d'Ornano family calls Corsica home, and the island's green mastic and vetiver landscapes found their way into the composition. Free and adventurous aren't just adjectives here, they're the actual brief.
What makes this work is the pairing of bitter orange with mastic. Neither note is common in mainstream perfumery, and together they create something that feels both Mediterranean and personal. The iris doesn't try to soften the resinous green, it works alongside it, adding powdery elegance to what could otherwise be too sharp. Vincent Ricord built this as a modern interpretation of the house's free-spirited character.
The evolution
The opening is bright and immediate. Bitter orange and lemon spark against geranium's herbal lift, the first twenty minutes feel like carbonation, like something electric. Then the citrus settles and the heart takes over. Mastic and iris create an unexpected tension: green resinous complexity against powdery elegance, with pistachio threading through as a nutty, almost edible note. The hand-off from citrus to heart is where this fragrance earns attention. The drydown arrives quietly. Vetiver's mineral earthiness grounds everything, sandalwood's creaminess softens the edges, labdanum adds resinous warmth that stays close to the skin. It projects as a warm, aromatic woody scent, present for hours without ever becoming loud.
Cultural impact
L'Eau Rêvée D'Ikar arrives as part of Sisley Paris's ongoing project to translate the d'Ornano family's Corsican heritage into wearable form. The d'Ornano name has been tied to French fashion and beauty for decades, and this fragrance draws on the island's landscape through mastic resin and vetiver to anchor the scent in a specific geography. The mastic contributes a slightly bitter, resinous character that cuts through the composition with a sharp, aromatic edge, while the vetiver grounds the blend with earthy, smoky depth. Together they create a fragrance that feels both grounded and ethereal, intimate and enduring.
