Why it exists.
The beginning
No. 16 arrives from the Pierre de Velay collection, created by Roja Dove and introduced to the line in 2020. The brief was deceptively simple: prove that sweetness doesn't have to mean juvenile. That a confection can sit at the table of haute perfumery without apologizing. Sweet Sixteen, as the brand frames it, celebrates a perfumer's ability to deliver sugary pleasure with the depth and restraint of fine fragrance. No high-street candy here. This is indulgence engineered with the kind of structure you'd expect from a nose who has spent decades studying how materials behave on skin, and it treats every ingredient as if it had somewhere serious to be.
What makes this composition work is the tension between the gourmand register and the floral backbone running through it. Jasmine on its own carries a pear-drop nuance, so the perfumer leans into that rather than masking it with sugar, letting the flower do some of the confectionary work. Ylang-ylang adds the tropical cream, softening the brightness of the citrus and giving the heart of the fragrance its lush, sun-warmed texture.
The evolution
The opening of No. 16 is all citrus, bergamot and grapefruit cracking the composition open like cold water on a warm morning. The grapefruit adds a pink, slightly sharp edge that keeps the citrus from feeling polite. Almost as quickly the florals arrive in a rush: jasmine bringing that creamy, almost pear-drop quality, ylang-ylang layering in its tropical warmth, and peach folding underneath with a soft, rounded sweetness. Rhubarb weaves through the fruit with a tart, almost fizzy lift that keeps the whole top from turning flat. Violet starts whispering almost immediately, its powdery note settling over everything like dust catching the light. The composition keeps shifting as the hours pass, each stage revealing a slightly different face of the same blend.

No. 16 wears as an approachable entry point into the Pierre de Velay line, offering something generous and immediately likeable without losing the precision that defines the house's work. The sweetness is there from the first spray, but it never leans cloying or one-note.
