Why it exists.
The beginning
Sometimes There Is No Next Time arrived in 2019, and the name lands like a warning dressed as a whisper, the kind of phrase that sits in your chest longer than it should. Perfumer Jutinat Piyaweerawong composed the scent, building a structure that opens with lush fruit and folds deliberately toward something heavier, darker, more committed. The opening brings peach and bergamot forward with an almost indecent ripeness, while blackcurrant lends a wine-stained edge beneath the surface. Orange and lemon brighten the corners, giving the fruit accord its initial lift before the composition tilts toward the heart. Cloves arrive with their characteristic dry heat, ylang-ylang spreads its waxy tropical sweetness, and jasmine sambac turns everything slightly heady.
What makes this composition worth a second look is the sheer range of materials stacked into a single arc. Five top notes span the full citrus-to-stone-fruit spectrum. Seven heart notes mix narcotic florals (jasmine sambac, ylang-ylang, narcissus) with spiced warmth (cloves) and powdery softness (heliotrope, cyclamen). The base is where Proad commits hardest, incense, benzoin, tonka bean, patchouli, amber, animalic musk, and agarwood all stacked together. That's not a subtle foundation. It's a decision to let the fragrance feel heavy, almost liturgical, while the top half flirts with brightness. The tension between fruit and resin, between floral lift and oud gravity, is the whole point.
