The beginning
Cherry Syrup Green is a 2023 release from Proad, the Thai fragrance house built around the seven deadly sins. The name gives it away immediately, this is the green interpretation of the brand's cherry obsession, a sibling to the original Cherry Syrup and its various colored companions. The inspiration is precise: a maraschino cherry perched on an ice cream cake, the kind of garnish that makes a dessert look like a celebration. Mixed into that, a cocktail glass, something gin-based, citrus-forward, with enough complexity to keep the sweetness honest. Proad didn't want something that smelled like candy. They wanted something that smelled like a celebration you'd actually attend.
The top accord is what makes this work. Cherry and gin together is an unusual pairing, cherry pulls sweet, gin pulls dry and juniper-sharp, and the two shouldn't cooperate. But the bergamot and green apple bridge them, adding brightness without pushing the sweetness further. The saffron and nutmeg arrive as quiet warmth, threading through the opening so it doesn't disappear into pure fruit. By the time you reach the base, the woody structure takes over, sandalwood, patchouli, oakmoss, but the vanilla and tonka bean keep it grounded in something warm and close. Amberwood and ambroxan add a skin-like quality that makes the drydown feel like it's yours, not the room's.
The evolution
The opening hits bright and immediate, cherry syrup, yes, but also the sharpness of gin cutting through. Bergamot adds a citrus lift. Thirty minutes in, the green apple softens the sweetness while saffron and nutmeg add warmth that wasn't there at first spray. The heart introduces jasmine and rose, floral, but not girlish. They're tucked under the woody structure already forming. By hour two, the base takes over: sandalwood and patchouli lead, with vanilla and tonka bean pulling everything into warmth. Oakmoss gives it a quiet earthiness. The drydown lasts, six to eight hours on most skin, moderate sillage that stays close rather than announcing itself. By hour six, it's skin-warm vanilla and musk, the kind of scent that someone notices only when they're standing beside you.
