The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
In 2007, Lucas Sieuzac created Jubilation 25 Woman as a response to the growing tendency toward safe, broadly appealing fragrances in the market. Working with Amouage, a house built on the premise that Middle Eastern perfumery traditions deserve uncompromising expression, Sieuzac designed a fragrance that leverages contrasts most perfumers avoid. The composition draws on aromatic tarragon and citrus brightness in its opening, moves through a rose heart informed by Turkish rose otto absolute and davana, and resolves in a base built on myrrh, amber, and vetiver that speaks to ritual and depth rather than comfort.
The choice of Turkish rose otto absolute as the heart material signals a commitment to richness over restraint. Davana, with its aromatic complexity, bridges the gap between the bright opening and the resinous base without softening either transition. The myrrh and amber foundation ensures the drydown speaks to the fragrance's name, suggesting something earned through time rather than announced immediately. Each layer serves a purpose: the opening declares its intent through citrus and herb, the heart reveals depth through rose and resin, and the base commits through myrrh and earth.
The evolution
Jubilation 25 Woman begins with lemon cutting against herbal tarragon, a combination that feels almost bitter before ylang-ylang introduces a honeyed richness beneath the surface. The rose arrives quietly at first, then asserts itself as Turkish rose otto absolute, a material known for its depth and slight waxy quality. Davana adds its characteristically aromatic warmth alongside frankincense and labdanum, two resins that push the heart toward smoke and sacred depth. As the fragrance moves into its drydown, myrrh takes the lead with its dry, spiritual bitterness. Amber softens the transition while vetiver grounds the composition in earth and patchouli introduces a faint, green bitterness that prevents the base from becoming merely sweet. Musk lingers in the background, smoothing the final stages into a long, resinous trail.
Cultural impact
Jubilation 25 Woman occupies a particular corner of the niche fragrance world: resinous, complex, and demanding. It attracts wearers who want something that rewards attention rather than announcing itself politely. The incense and artemisia make it a dividing line, some find the combination confrontational, others find it unforgettable. What it doesn't do is disappear. The interplay of smoky resins, bitter herbs, and rich florals creates a fragrance that commands presence without shouting, drawing in those who appreciate depth and sophistication over fleeting trends.
