The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Verônica Kato designed Essencial Estilo in 2015 as part of Natura's Essencial collection, a line built on the idea that less, done with intention, says more. The brief was straightforward: a woody-spicy masculine composition grounded in natural elegance. No excess. No noise. Kato worked with Natura's sourcing network, pulling Brazilian cedar and copaiba balm into a structure built around contrast, bright citrus-pepper opening, warm woody heart, soft powdery close. The name says it all: Estilo is not about trend. It's about the confidence that comes when someone stops performing and starts simply being.
What makes the structure interesting is the hand-off between phases. The opening is all calculated sharpness, five ingredients competing for attention in a tight, effervescent burst. Then comes the surprise: the citrus cools almost immediately, and cedar takes over with an authority that feels like it belongs to a different fragrance entirely. Copaiba balm, sourced from Amazonian forests, adds a balsamic depth rarely found outside niche compositions. Cashmeran and tonka bean in the base don't shout, they soften, powder, and linger. The result is a fragrance that moves from confrontation to intimacy in under twenty minutes, and stays there.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are the loudest, black pepper and bergamot hitting together, elemi adding a faint resinous lift, cypress cutting through with an herbal sharpness that keeps everything from getting too sweet. It's the kind of opening that makes people turn their head. Around the fifteen-minute mark, the citrus begins to recede. Cedar steps forward, dry and warm, followed by jasmine, not heady, but present, adding a quiet floral dimension that prevents the woods from reading as austere. By the hour, the drydown has settled. Musk and amber create a warm, intimate trail that stays close to the skin. Vetiver adds an earthy, slightly smoky finish. On fabric, it fades gracefully. On skin, the tonka-bean sweetness carries into the evening, present but never loud. The next morning, a faint woody warmth remains at the pulse point, proof it lasted longer than expected.
Cultural impact
Essencial Estilo speaks to men who have moved past the need to announce themselves. The fragrance doesn't compete for attention, it rewards the wearer who chooses presence over performance. Within Natura's portfolio, it sits alongside the broader Essencial line as a statement of refined, effortless masculinity. Verônica Kato designed it with a distinctly Brazilian sensibility, drawing on the brand's Amazonian sourcing network and long-standing relationships with small-scale cooperatives. The result is a fragrance that feels rooted in place without being exoticized, warm, natural, and quietly confident.
