The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Verônica Kato designed Essencial Sentir for Natura in 2024, drawing on the brand's deep connection to Brazilian botanical resources. The fragrance emerged from a study in contrast, using ingredients that reflect both the clarity and the complexity found in Brazil's diverse ecosy stems. Bergamot, though not native to Brazil, provides a crisp, universally recognizable opening, while spiked pepper connects the composition to Brazilian botanical heritage, adding regional character through a quiet heat that feels native to the landscape.
The note philosophy behind Essencial Sentir prioritizes cohesion over drama. Rather than building through distinct stages, the fragrance presents its core notes as an ensemble, allowing bergamot, patchouli, lavender, spiked pepper, and sandalwood to coexist in a sustained heart that does not dramatically shift. This approach reflects Natura's interest in botanical ingredients that feel both intentional and organic, where each note serves a purpose in the overall composition rather than arriving for a moment of spectacle. The spiked pepper especially exemplifies this philosophy, offering complexity that rewards attention without demanding it.
The evolution
The evolution of Essencial Sentir is defined by its refusal to separate into distinct phases. Bergamot announces the fragrance with clean precision, immediately joined by lavender which adds a cool, herbaceous counterpoint. Spiked pepper arrives subtly, introducing complexity without aggression. Patchouli and sandalwood work in concert, with sandalwood providing creamy depth while patchouli contributes earthiness that balances the citrus brightness. The progression is one of deepening rather than transformation, as the initial clarity gives way to warmer, woodier territory while maintaining the essential character established at the opening.
Cultural impact
Essencial Sentir arrives as a woody aromatic built around an unexpected ingredient: Brazilian pepper. This regional element gives the fragrance a distinctive character rooted in its botanical origins, creating a scent profile that feels specific rather than generic. The Brazilian pepper adds a quiet complexity that sets it apart from more conventional woody aromatics. The fragrance works well in professional environments, where its moderate projection means it suits spaces where moreassertive scents might become distracting. The composition balances presence and restraint, offering something that registers clearly without overwhelming.
