The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
OWN V arrived in 2020 as part of MITH's Own Collection, a line of fragrances the Bangkok house released during a period of active creative development. MITH, whose name doubles as Made in Thailand, developed Own Collection as a focused series of compositions. Each release in the line carried its own mood, its own temperature, its own way of settling on skin. OWN V sits at the more aromatic, structured end of that range. With its opening salvo of aldehydes, clementine, and pink pepper, then pulling into a papyrus-and-iris heart, the composition reads like the olfactory equivalent of a well-pressed linen shirt on a warm afternoon.
The papyrus note in OWN V doesn't read as a dusty old book so much as a clean, slightly mineral dryness, the scent of paper warming in sunlight. It carries an almost stony quality, neither sweet nor sharp, just present in a way that makes you notice it. Combined with iris, which carries that powdered, rooty elegance, it gives the composition an intellectual composure you don't usually find in fragrances this bright on top.
The evolution
OWN V opens with a brief aldehyde sparkle, almost metallic, then settles into clementine and mandarin quickly. Bergamot and pink pepper ride underneath, warming the citrus rather than sharpening it. The opening is effervescent but not loud, more like cold water poured into a warm glass. The aldehydes give the whole top a sort of soapy-clean brightness, the kind that catches light, while the pink pepper adds a gentle flush of warmth beneath the fruit. It never tips into sharp or synthetic territory; the citrus feels rounded, almost honeyed in the background. As the composition moves forward, the heart takes over: iris arrives first, that familiar powder-and-carrot warmth, then papyrus unfurls alongside it. Star anise adds a faint, sweet licorice whisper that most people won't name but everyone notices.
Cultural impact
OWN V sits within MITH's Own Collection, a series that contributed to the brand's growing presence in the world of independent perfumery. As a Bangkok-based house working within a global niche fragrance conversation, MITH offers something rooted in its own context. The Own Collection reflects a sensibility shaped by place without being limited by expectation, and OWN V exemplifies that balance. It's a composition that draws on classical perfumery materials (aldehydes, iris, papyrus, sandalwood) and arranges them in a way that feels fresh and particular.
