The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
In 2022, Frapin released 1270 Extrême. Not a reimagining, a deliberate intensification. The original 1270 had established a fruity-woody signature that wearers returned to. Extrême was the answer to a question nobody asked out loud: what happens when you push that formula further? The perfumer, Jérôme Epinette, worked with the house's cellar expertise to build a richer, more complex version, one that kept the character of the original while adding depth and warmth. The name says it all. 1270, at its extreme.
Elemi resin is the amplifier here. Where most fragrances use it as a supporting citrus note, Frapin deploys it to heighten the tropical quality of the pineapple, making the opening feel even more natural, more juicy. The vine blossom in the heart is unusual, a delicate floral that sits between jasmine sambac and rose, adding a quiet complexity rather than volume. At the base, tonka bean and vanilla create the honeyed warmth, while guaiac wood brings a smoky, almost tar-like depth that keeps the sweetness from ever becoming confection. The result is a fragrance that feels simultaneously more intense and more refined than its predecessor.
The evolution
The opening bursts with pineapple and elemi resin, the citrusy resinous quality amplifying the tropical fruit until it almost fills the room. Then the bergamot cools things down, apple adds crispness, and the sweetness takes a more restrained shape. By the second hour, jasmine sambac and rose have emerged, woven through with cedar. The florals don't overpower, they arrive quietly, settling alongside the woody heart. By the fourth hour, the honey and vanilla begin to show, wrapping the skin in warmth. The guaiac wood and patchouli linger longest, a smoky, earthy base that holds the sweetness close. Six to eight hours on most skin, intimate sillage throughout.
Cultural impact
1270 Extrême occupies a specific niche, fruity-sweet compositions with woody bases, refined enough for daily wear but with enough warmth and complexity to feel distinctive. The moderate sillage makes it a strong choice for office environments and professional settings where an overwhelming presence would be inappropriate. The honeyed warmth and woody drydown give it particular appeal in cooler months and for evening occasions, when those qualities have room to develop and express themselves fully.
