The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Part of the Rock & Riot Black collection, Heroes arrived in 2016 as a fragrance that takes coconut in a different direction. Where many interpretations lean tropical and light, this one goes creamy, almost resinous, with a woody heart that gives the composition serious weight. The bergamot in the opening adds bright citrus contrast that keeps the coconut from becoming cloying. It's a fragrance built on the idea that scent is personal, something you wear because it means something to you.
What makes Heroes stand apart is the coconut placement. It opens bright and tropical, but it's immediately held in check by artemisia's cool, almost medicinal edge, a tension that most coconut fragrances never attempt. Around that core, the heart layers multiple materials: cedar and guaiac wood anchor it, patchouli brings its characteristic earthy depth, vetiver adds its smoky mineral quality, sandalwood contributes creamy warmth, and heliotrope introduces a soft powdery layer that prevents the composition from becoming heavy.
The evolution
The opening hits immediately, coconut creaminess softened by bergamot's citrus brightness. Artemisia arrives shortly after, its herbal, slightly bitter character keeping the sweetness honest. That's the fragrance at its most accessible moment, bright and inviting before the complexity builds. Then the heart begins its slow takeover, with cedar and guaiac wood asserting themselves. Patchouli follows, bringing its characteristic earthy depth. The florals, geranium and ylang-ylang, don't announce themselves so much as drift through quietly, adding softness to what could otherwise become heavy. By the time the drydown settles, cedar and sandalwood form the structure while vanilla and tonka bean coat everything in warmth. This is where Heroes earns its longevity, the base notes projecting gently but lasting on the skin. The final hours are intimate, skin-close, resinous.
Cultural impact
The coconut-woody-gourmand combination in Heroes attracts fragrance enthusiasts who appreciate unexpected material pairings over conventional compositions. It occupies a particular space in niche perfumery, offering something unconventional without crossing into confrontational territory.
