Suede changes the texture entirely. It softens the smoke, makes it less confrontational, more worn-in. Combined with iris in the heart and ambergris in the base, the composition moves from cool to warm without ever crossing into sweetness. The suede emerges in the drydown, giving the fragrance a tactile quality, as if the smoke has settled into fabric rather than dissipated into air.

The evolution

The opening is bright. Orange and lemon arrive first, with enough clarity to feel almost cold. Cardamom sits beneath, warming the edges. The heart phase is where the smoke first announces itself, not as a dramatic arrival but as a slow recognition. Black pepper adds a clean heat. Iris brings powdery softness. Cypress grounds everything, keeping the smoke from floating upward. The base is where Ombre Fumée earns its name. Vetiver arrives mineral and earthy, followed by cedarwood that adds warmth without sweetness. Ambergris brings a subtle animalic lift, not aggressive, just present. The suede emerges slowly, giving the drydown a tactile quality, like warm fabric rather than cold smoke.
