The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The name Sable Pourpre evokes a striking visual: dunes washed in a deep, wine-dark hue that shifts under a fading sky. Evody Parfums built this fragrance around that image, creating a scent that holds both boldness and restraint in tension. Released in 2019 as part of the Collection Cachemire, the perfume translates the feeling of that landscape into olfactory form, inviting the wearer to discover its depths with slow attention.
What makes Sable Pourpre structurally unusual is its treatment of rose. Rather than deploying it as a softener, the composition pairs it with non-sweet styrax and lets the raspberry do the fruit work up top. The result is a rose that reads more like dried petals pressed between pages than fresh stems in water. Saffron threads through the entire composition rather than landing only in the opening, which keeps the top and drydown connected by a persistent thread of warm spice that most fragrances of this type abandon after the first hour.
The evolution
The opening arrives smooth and enveloping, its character more gentle than expected given its complexity. Ripe, non-sugary raspberry provides a fruity presence, while saffron lends warmth rather than medicinal sharpness. Incense smoke curls underneath, creating a quiet depth that adds dimension without heaviness. As the fragrance develops, the fruity-spicy burst begins to fold inward. Rose appears, not as a full bloom but as a dried, slightly bitter presence, and the styrax contributes a balsamic resinous quality that feels like something sealed rather than opened. Leather makes its presence known, dry and confident but never harsh, beginning to take over the narrative. From here, the composition pivots toward its base with purpose. Oud settles in as a warm, slightly medicinal depth. Musk anchors everything close to the skin. The saffron does not disappear.
Cultural impact
Sable Pourpre has found its audience among niche collectors who value complexity over comfort. The fragrance rewards attention with its layered development, offering something different as it evolves on the skin. Bold enough to hold interest, restrained enough to remain close, it speaks to a wearer who treats getting ready as the point, not the prelude.
