The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Be Trendy Fusion arrived in 2011 as part of Dzintars' Be Trendy line. By the time this scent launched, the house had built up a substantial catalogue of fragrances rooted in regional identity, and the Be Trendy series introduced a new direction. Fusion was the tropical entry, leaning hard on pineapple, yuzu, and apricot to make a first impression that didn't ask permission. The opening is bright, almost aggressive in its fruitiness, with pineapple bringing that canned-tropical sweetness and yuzu adding a sharper, almost bitter citrus cut right alongside it. Mandarin orange weaves through the top, rounding things out with a softer zest, while apricot sits underneath giving a fuzzy, sun-warmed quality.
The composition makes a deliberate choice in its opening. Pineapple and yuzu together is unusual, that sharp citrus-sweet tension. This one fuses them. Add mandarin orange and apricot and the top becomes almost overflowing, a deliberate abundance that signals the fragrance wants to be noticed before it settles. It's a strategy: hook first, refine second. The pineapple reads juicy and almost syrupy at full volume, while the yuzu cuts across it with a tart, almost metallic edge that keeps the sweetness in check.
The evolution
The first 20 minutes are all noise, pineapple shouting over yuzu, apricot trying to elbow in, mandarin providing a thin citrus thread. Then something shifts. The fruit doesn't disappear, it loses its edge, the sharpness rounding out into something warmer. Apple blossom enters quietly, almost apologetic, while red berries add a jammy sweetness that wasn't there before. By the two-hour mark, the composition has crossed into gourmand territory. Vanilla arrives, not aggressively, but enough to change the temperature. Musk underneath, soft and close, with woody notes that ground everything without announcing themselves. The tropical fruit that defined the opening becomes a memory. By hour four, you're wearing a skin-warm vanilla-musk with a faint fruit echo, nothing sharp left. It clings close in the final stretch, intimate rather than projecting. On fabric the next morning: vanilla and a trace of something sweet you can't quite name.
Cultural impact
Be Trendy Fusion carries the characteristics typical of Dzintars' Be Trendy series: bold, fruit-forward compositions built around energetic openings and accessible wear. The fragrance leans into tropical and citrus notes with confidence, pairing pineapple, yuzu, mandarin orange, and apricot in a top that announces itself immediately. There's a generous quality to how these notes are layered, each fruit contributing its own character before the blend integrates into something more cohesive. The heart softens the blow with apple blossom and red berries, creating a gentler middle phase that feels less aggressive than the opening might suggest.
