Splendid arrived as part of Revlon's ongoing conversation with women who wanted accessible fragrance with presence. The brand approached Splendid as a modern floral oriental with a clear point of view. Peony, black pepper, and freesia opened the composition with a bright, peppery lift, the cool green-white of peony set against the dry heat of pepper and the clean, almost-cucumber freshness of freesia. The combination reads crisp and awake on first spray, the kind of opening that announces itself without shouting. The heart paired rose oil with red berries and ylang-ylang, threading a rounded sweetness through the warmer spices that lingered from the top.
The decision to pair black pepper with peony in the opening gives Splendid its edge.
