The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Sunkissed Bliss 2024 is Odyssey's reformulation of the original Sunkissed Bliss, a citrus-aromatic launched by the house in 2023. The 2024 version was created to more closely echo the impression of a yuzu and ume ice cream that inspired the fragrance, with the perfumer noting hot Japanese summer days as part of that picture. The nose behind it is Anunsith Wongkornvanich, and the brief was clear from the start. This wasn't about a cocktail or a generic fruit burst. It was about translating the cold, sweet-tart, almost salty experience of a particular Japanese dessert into something wearable.
What makes this composition work is the precision of its central tension. Yuzu and ume (Japanese plum) do the heavy lifting in the opening, the yuzu an oil sourced from Shikoku Island in Japan, paired with an ume accord developed from the apricot family with a subtle salty nuance. Sea salt reinforces that saltiness, so the opening doesn't read as a simple citrus splash. It reads as citrus with a memory of brine, a fruit note that carries a mineral undertow instead of pure sweetness.
The evolution
The first fifteen minutes are a controlled collision. Yuzu and ume hit sharp, almost sour, with the sea salt pushing the whole thing toward something mineral. There's a fleeting sweetness from the ume, like stone fruit half-ripe, but the salt keeps it honest. It smells cold, even on warm skin, the kind of cold that makes you think of something frozen held in a hot hand. After about thirty minutes, the lavender arrives, and with it, a softening. The citrus doesn't disappear. It recedes, making room for an aromatic green heart. Juniper berry adds a peppery, tonic quality, that bittersweet snap you get from crushed berries steeped in cold water. Orange blossom floats in underneath, barely there, more suggestion than statement. The whole composition has a clean, sun-warmed quality, like cotton drying on a line with a breeze moving through it.
Cultural impact
Sunkissed Bliss 2024 leans into a sensory memory that few fragrances in the Western market have tried to bottle: the precise taste of yuzu and ume ice cream on a hot summer day. That alone makes it a distinctive entry in a crowded citrus-aromatic field, where most compositions reach for bergamot, lemon, or grapefruit and call it done. Here, the yuzu brings a sharper, more floral citrus character, and the ume adds that salty-sour depth that reads almost like brine. It's a fragrance that rewards attention.
