The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Boundless Voyages arrived in 2023, the work of perfumer Anunsith Wongkornvanich, and the name does what it says. This is scent as movement, built for the hours between one horizon and the next. There's a green edge that hasn't been walked off yet, and a leather warmth that suggests something already underway, a campfire still throwing heat behind you. Wongkornvanich's composition leans into that in-between feeling. Cade oil gives the opening its tarry, woodsmoke character, a charred note that pulls you in before the rest of the composition has settled. Fig leaf and violet bring the cool, herbal humidity of somewhere outdoors, a green sharpness that contrasts the dark smoke without fighting it.
What's unusual here is the structural choice: leather built around cade oil rather than the more common smoky materials. Wongkornvanich reaches for cade, and lets suede do the leather work on its own. Cade shows up here with a tarry, almost acrid edge that feels more campfire than saddle, a smoke that hasn't quite settled into something comfortable. The fig leaf and violet at the top keep the whole thing from sinking into straight tobacco-leather territory, lending a green astringency that lifts the composition and keeps the air around it moving.
The evolution
The opening is the most unsettled part of the wear. Cade hits first, tarry and almost acrid, the way juniper smoke smells when it's still wet, still clinging to whatever it touched. Violet leaf and fig cool it down, but there's a tension here, a green sharpness pushing against the smoke. Don't be surprised if the opening reads a little rough on skin. Then the suede arrives, and the composition exhales. The clary sage threads through, herbal and slightly sweet, pulling the leather into something softer, something closer to skin. As the wear develops, the tobacco becomes more present, warm and resinous rather than ashy, and the vanilla underneath starts warming the whole shape, a low heat that radiates without overwhelming. The green at the top fades but doesn't disappear. It lingers as a clean counterweight to the tobacco and amber, keeping the drydown from going too sweet, too heavy.
Cultural impact
Boundless Voyages occupies a distinctive space in the leather-and-tobacco conversation, the one where the smoke comes from cade oil rather than the usual birch tar, and the fig leaf up top keeps the whole thing from tipping into pure darkness. Wearers who know cade tend to recognize it immediately; those who don't often describe the opening as unusual before the suede wins them over. The fig-and-suede combination reads as a quieter take on the leather category, restrained without being precious, and the tobacco-vanilla drydown keeps it grounded and wearable.
