The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
O Boticário, founded in 1977, has built its identity around Brazil's extraordinary botanical wealth. Arbo Forest, launched in 2022, continues this legacy by capturing the layered complexity of a Brazilian forest canopy. Perfumers Marion Costero and Leandro Petit approached the brief with a clear vision: translate the experience of walking beneath towering trees into liquid form, starting with the light filtering through the upper canopy and ending with the cool, dark earth beneath.
O Boticário's approach to Arbo Forest reflects a broader philosophy of using fragrance to tell geographic stories. The opening notes were chosen to represent the lightest, most accessible layer of forest experience while the heart and base notes progressively deepen the narrative. Cedarwood provides the structural backbone familiar from traditional woody fragrances, but the addition of ozonic notes and rhubarb demonstrates a willingness to modernize the genre.
The evolution
The fragrance begins in the canopy with a crisp fruit and citrus combination that mimics sunlight hitting fresh leaves. Apple provides the initial sweetness while citrus amplifies the brightness and green notes establish immediate botanical authenticity. As this opening evolves, the scent moves downward through the forest structure. Cedarwood emerges as the primary architectural element, its dry woody character anchoring the mid-section while ozonic notes introduce atmospheric variation. The addition of rhubarb brings an unusual vegetable tartness that elevates the heart beyond predictable green territory, while violet adds gentler floral balance. The final movement descends to the forest floor where amber and labdanum introduce warmth, patchouli and vetiver contribute earthiness, and oakmoss completes the journey with authentic mossy depth. Musk rounds the composition, ensuring the drydown remains comfortable against skin rather than overwhelming.
Cultural impact
Arbo Forest taps into Brazil’s deep connection to its native forests, echoing the country’s tradition of celebrating natural landscapes through scent. Launched in 2022, the fragrance mirrors the cultural reverence for biodiversity, using apple and lavender to evoke the freshness of regional orchards while the woody base reflects the grounding presence of the Amazon’s understory. This blend resonates with consumers who value sustainability and a sensory link to their heritage, positioning the perfume as both a modern expression and a nod to longstanding ecological pride.
