The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Roma Uomo Nero Estremo arrived as a new interpretation of the iconic Roma Uomo by Laura Biagiotti. The original fragrance was a tribute to Rome's quiet grandeur. Nero Estremo takes that same sense of place and pushes it further, translating the concept of deep, intense black into olfactory form. The perfumers, Annick Ménardo and Suzy Le Helley, were tasked with honoring a legacy while creating something deliberately extreme. The result is a scent that opens with bright citrus clarity before settling into a rich, aromatic heart and a warm, woody foundation that lingers close to the skin.
The new interpretation honors the original's Mediterranean roots. Ménardo and Le Helley kept the bergamot essential oil and winter lemon essential oil as the opening, maintaining that bright, luminous quality that anchors the scent, but layered in Belanis® to deepen the introduction and create more complexity beneath the surface. The heart combines Provençal lavender with clary sage, geranium, and bay laurel, creating a classic aromatic core. The base brings warmth through tonka bean and vanilla, grounded by Haitian vetiver and oakmoss for a woody, slightly earthy finish.
The evolution
The opening citrus arrives sharp and clean, bergamot and lemon hitting bright before Belanis® adds a subtle complexity beneath. Fifteen minutes in, the herbal heart takes over. Provençal lavender and clary sage dominate, with geranium adding a quiet floral lift and bay laurel grounding the whole thing. But the real story is the drydown. The opening projects well for the first couple hours, then pulls back to something closer and more personal once it settles into the heart and base notes. The drydown has real staying power though. Here's the thing: the vanilla doesn't just sweeten. It deepens. The tonka bean and vanilla start warm and comforting, but as the hours pass, the vetiver and oakmoss take over, pushing the sweetness into something richer and more complex. By the end, it's a quiet, earthy warmth that feels nothing like the clean citrus opening.
Cultural impact
Roma Uomo Nero Estremo launched as a new interpretation of the iconic Roma Uomo, offering an aromatic fougère with a vanilla-vetiver drydown. The sweet-spicy aromatic profile gives it a distinctive character within the masculine scent landscape. For men seeking something that leans into its character rather than playing it safe, this one earns attention.
