The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Jasper Conran launched his fragrance range in 2003 with two scents released simultaneously: one for him, one for her. The British designer had built his career on clean, considered design across fashion and the home. Christian Provenzano composed the debut scent for men, translating Conran's minimal aesthetic into olfactory terms. The result is a fragrance with a clear identity and quiet confidence, a scent that speaks softly but unmistakably, belonging to someone rather than announcing them.
What makes the structure interesting is the way the heart refuses to behave. Neroli is a white floral, and white florals are supposed to be soft, fleeting things. Here, it arrives early and stays. The green tea note doesn't read as the typical aquatic or ozonic freshie territory either. It's more vegetal, slightly bitter, pulling against the sweetness. Sage sits between them, bridging the contradiction. The result is a fresh fragrance that argues with itself halfway through the wear.
The evolution
The opening arrives sharp and clear. Petitgrain Paraguay and blood grapefruit create a citrus effect that is more bitter than sweet, more aromatic than juicy. As the fragrance develops, the neroli emerges and sweetens everything, turning the citrus into something softer. A green tea note cools the composition while sage pulls the fragrance toward herbal territory as the floral element settles. In the base, vetiver and guaiac wood create woody warmth while musk and patchouli add depth without heaviness. The drydown lasts into the evening on most skin types, projecting moderately and staying close. The vetiver notes can linger on fabric well into the next day.
Cultural impact
Released in 2003 alongside its female counterpart, this fragrance arrived at a time when fresh aromatic scents were popular in the men's market. Its neroli-forward heart set it apart from the typical citrus-fresh template, giving it a distinctive character. Two decades later, it remains available and continues to attract wearers looking for uncomplicated, daytime-appropriate fragrance.
