What makes Chypress distinctive is osmanthus. In the heart, this small stone fruit of a flower delivers apricot and suede, a combination that most perfumers either overdo or ignore entirely. Floris threads it between jasmine and ylang-ylang, keeping the warmth approachable rather than challenging. The result is a floral that smells expensive without trying too hard. Osmanthus rarely leads a fragrance this mainstream. That's the bet, and it pays off.

The evolution

The opening arrives bright and clean. Neroli leads, Floris made a deliberate choice here, subverting the classic bergamot-first chypre structure, followed by a citrus quartet of bergamot, lemon, and sweet orange. Clean, crisp, a little soapy in the best possible way. After 30 to 45 minutes, osmanthus takes over. Apricot. A whisper of suede. The florals soften around it without competing. This is the heart that people remember, juicy and specific, unlike the standard rose-jasmine template. By the second hour, the base arrives quietly. Patchouli, amber, and vanilla create warmth without weight. Musk keeps it skin-close. Moderate sillage throughout, this is not a fragrance that fills a room. It fills your orbit.
