The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Dolcissimo Sollievo arrived in 2022 as part of Filippo Sorcinelli's SuperFluo collection, an extrait de parfum built around a single emotional premise: the relief that comes when the heat finally breaks. The name itself says it, sweet relief, the exhale after tension. Sorcinelli has long treated scent as a narrative medium, translating memory and place into olfactory form. Here, that narrative opens into something lighter, not simple, but more accessible. The warmth of tonka and amber embraces immediately, while vanilla adds a creamy depth that feels almost sunlit. Patchouli grounds the sweetness with an earthy undertone, preventing any sense of superficiality. There's a quiet confidence in how the fragrance unfurls, each note occupying its space without competing.
What makes Dolcissimo Sollievo unusual is the way it pairs marine notes with vanilla and tonka bean, two families that don't typically share space. The sweetness of the opening could easily overwhelm a marine accord, but the tonka bean here isn't gourmand. It's warm and slightly bitter, more the dried bean than the extract. Combined with amber and patchouli, it creates a sweet base with enough weight to support the cool, mineral aquatic notes rather than fight them. The rosemary in the base is the unexpected choice, it keeps the drydown from becoming purely warm, adding a green, herbal counterpoint that echoes the marine quality of the heart.
The evolution
Tonka bean and amber arrive together, warm and immediate. There's no hesitation at the opening. Patchouli adds earth beneath the sweetness, vanilla fills out the center, and a faint moss note keeps everything close to the skin. The marine element appears as a cool counterpoint to the warmth, not replacing it but existing alongside it. Lily of the valley threads through quietly, a cool floral thread bridging the top and heart notes without asserting itself. Gardenia adds a soft, almost tropical quality to the heart. As the base emerges, frankincense and rosemary introduce a subtle spice, while elemi resin brings a faint balsamic quality that extends the wear. The fragrance settles into a quiet closeness, the kind you catch when you move your wrist close to your face. On fabric, the warmth lingers into the following day.
Cultural impact
Dolcissimo Sollievo stands apart from the incense-forward work that has come before it, offering a different kind of sensory experience without losing the depth that defines the house. The marine and vanilla combination creates unexpected tension, mineral coolness against warm sweetness. Sorcinelli's background in darker compositions makes this particular pairing feel deliberate rather than accidental, the marine cutting through what could have become simply sweet. The SuperFluo collection provides an accessible entry point, though accessible here never means simple.
