The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The name says it all. I Love Surprise arrived in 2011 as a fragrance designed to offer something unexpected. The composition builds on classic perfumery principles with carefully selected materials that create a distinct character as the scent develops on the skin. The surprise isn't in the name, it's in the powdery iris that takes over when the citrus fades. The transition from bright opening to soft heart gives the wearer a sense of discovery, with the iris providing a gentle shift in direction that rewards patience and attention.
What makes the structure work is the contrast between opening and heart. Bergamot and lemon give you something clean and immediate, then the iris arrives and changes the conversation entirely. Opoponax and labdanum in the base reinforce that warm-balsamic quality. The drydown has a natural quality to it, with the base notes supporting the heart without overwhelming it.
The evolution
The opening hits clean, bergamot and lemon with an aromatic quality that establishes the initial character. As the fragrance develops, iris emerges with its powdery quality, and suddenly you're in a different place than you expected. The rose and jasmine layer in softly, blending with the iris rather than competing. The base develops gradually, with vanilla and tonka bean becoming more prominent, warmed by labdanum's depth and the balsamic roundness of opoponax. The sillage settles close to the skin. The surprise, in the end, is that it's simply good.
Cultural impact
Dzintars traces its roots to Riga, Latvia, when a workshop opened that would grow into one of the region's recognized fragrance houses. The brand has represented quality craftsmanship for consumers in Latvia and neighboring countries. I Love Surprise launched in 2011 as part of the I Love collection, bringing a sophisticated approach to fragrance design to a new generation while honoring the house's heritage.
